Casino industry stalwart, Biano Marini, is the Slots Manager at Sun International’s new casino complex Time Square in Menlyn Pretoria, opening in April 2017. Also the Sun International Group Slots Manager, Marini has over 25 years experience in the gaming industry.

Reporting to Time Square’s General Manager, Brett Hoppé, Marini and his team have designed what will be the most innovative and technologically advanced casino floor in South Africa when Time Square opens for business. With over 2000 slot machines and 60 tables, the casino will be one of the largest in South Africa.

“Time Square is the epitome of world class, from the variety of games, pioneering floor layout and advanced customer interaction technologies, right through to its breathtaking look and feel. We are redefining the gaming experience with an offering that is currently unprecedented in South Africa,” says Marini.

For slots enthusiasts, Time Square will offer speciality products never seen before in South Africa, some of which are exclusive to Sun International such as a game themed to one of the most popular television series ever to hit South African shores, as well as Sun International’s hugely popular wide area progressive jackpots Duma, SunStriker and Lion’s Share, and the Group’s first one cent, multi-level local area progressive, Cash Explosion.

Time Square’s casino floor includes non smoking and smoking sections; a Sun Lounge featuring higher end machines as well as tables, and the opulent Prive where discerning guests can play their favourite slots and table games in utmost privacy and exclusivity. Other highlights include a private, enclosed baccarat pit, four separate private gaming rooms and sophisticated customer engagement technologies to deliver a highly personalised experience to guests.

Marini brings a wealth of experience to the fold at Time Square. During his career, Marini has been involved in exciting casino developments both locally and internationally. His notable achievements include the successful, three-phase opening of the Monticello Casino in 2008, as well as its re-launch in 2010 following an earthquake. During his time at Monticello Casino, Marini managed all aspects of the gaming operation including 83 tables, 1 716 slots, 300 bingo seats, technical, VIP guests and 439 employees.

He was involved with the opening of the SugarMill Casino in KwaZulu-Natal in 2000 five days ahead of schedule and was part of the team which readied Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom, also in KwaZulu-Natal, for opening in 2004. Marini has been part of ambitious revamps and an array of exciting development projects, amongst which he touts Time Square as one of the most notable.

Once complete, Time Square will be Sun International’s flagship property, comprising the state of the art casino; luxury hotel; conference facilities; restaurants and upscale retail outlets. It will also house an expansive 8 000-seat Arena, to open later this year. The Arena will be the only venue of its kind in Pretoria and will play host to international and local concerts, exhibitions and lifestyle events.
